Wholesale Fragrances & Perfume Suppliers

Fragrance is one of the most counterfeited and most diverted categories in wholesale, so provenance and packaging checks come first. It also involves flammable liquids and allergen labeling, which affect shipping and compliance.

Buying guide: Fragrances & Perfume

Authenticity comes first

Designer and niche perfumes are copied heavily, and some counterfeits are convincing. Request invoices that trace stock to the brand or an authorized distributor, and be wary of prices well below normal wholesale. On delivery, compare the box, cellophane, cap, bottle finish, atomizer and batch code against a known genuine unit. Batch codes should match between box and bottle. Misspellings, uneven fill levels, loose caps and weak scent that fades quickly are warning signs.

Parallel imports and sealing

Much fragrance wholesale is parallel trade, meaning genuine goods bought in one market and sold in another. This is not automatically illegal, but brands often object, and stock may be missing outer cartons or cellophane wrap. Ask whether goods are sealed and in original packaging. Testers are sold at lower prices without proper boxes and are labeled as testers. They should not be sold as new retail units.

Compliance and labeling

Fragrances are cosmetics in most markets and must list ingredients, including declared allergens in markets that require it, with batch codes and responsible-person details. Some ingredients are restricted differently across markets, so a formula for one country may not suit another. Check the rules for your market, and ask whether labeling matches your language and regulatory region.

Flammable goods and freight

Perfume contains alcohol and is flammable. Carriers often treat it as dangerous goods, especially by air, and may impose limits or surcharges. Ask the supplier how they ship, what packaging they use and whether they handle the paperwork. Plan storage away from heat and ignition sources and check your insurance.

Storage and shelf life

Fragrance generally lasts a long time if kept cool, dark and sealed, but heat and light change the scent. Older stock may have a different color or note. Ask for batch codes and, where printed, expiry or period-after-opening information.

Sizes, sets and seasonality

Wholesale usually covers a range of sizes, from small travel sprays to large bottles, plus gift sets with body products. Sets sell strongly before gifting periods, so order early. New releases bring demand, but older and discontinued lines can hold steady value among loyal buyers. Margins on popular designer scents are usually thin, with competition from large retailers, while niche, decants and own-label can offer more room.

What to ask a supplier

  • Is the stock sealed and from an authorized source, and can you show invoices?
  • Are items boxed and cellophane-wrapped? Are any testers included?
  • Which market is the labeling made for?
  • What are the batch codes and how are they dated?
  • How do you ship flammable goods?
  • What is your policy on leaking or damaged bottles?

Frequently asked questions

How can I tell if wholesale perfume is fake?

Compare packaging, print, cap, atomizer and batch code on the box and bottle against a known genuine unit. Ask for invoices that trace the stock to the brand, and be careful with prices far below the norm.

Is parallel-import perfume legal to resell?

It is often lawful where goods were first sold with the brand's consent, but rules differ by region and brands may object. Check the rules for your market.

Why do carriers charge more for perfume?

Perfume contains flammable alcohol and is often handled as dangerous goods, particularly in air freight. Ask your supplier how they ship and factor surcharges into pricing.

What are testers and can I sell them?

Testers are display units usually in plain or no packaging, sold cheaper. They are not meant to be sold as new boxed items, so label them honestly.

How do I check that a wholesale supplier is legitimate?

Check the company registration and street address, ask for trade references and start with a sample or small order. Be careful with suppliers who only accept untraceable payment methods. The Trust Score on each profile shows which of these signals we could confirm.
